Fall weddings are having a moment!

There’s something about the cooler weather and the stunning colors that come with it that are inspiring more couples to plan their wedding in the fall.¬†Of course, a fall wedding is nothing new, but now the ideas seem even more infinite and choices are becoming more bold.

Every season, it’s exciting to see what is coming up next but this one in particular was overflowing with trends that we just had to share. Here’s a few of our favorites.

  • Take it Outside
Outdoor weddings aren’t new, but even the most formal of brides can now be seen considering a barn wedding or decorating a friend’s meadow with extravagant floral arrangements and white folding chairs. If you see an unexpected outdoor spot that you love – why not ask if you can use it?
  • Seasonal Fruit & Organic Centerpieces
Forget the stiff floral arrangements of last year, make it organic and make it seasonal. Use fruit that is of the season and has a warm, elegant feeling to them (e.g. figs, apples, pears etc.). Add in some gorgeous fall berries and twigs for an interesting, yet beautiful centerpiece.
  • Bold Brides
Whether it’s formal or casual, the vibe is to make a statement. Even the most minimal of dresses are bold in shape and almost architectural in style, with geometric necklines creating a simple, yet elegant kind of drama. Other brides are leaning towards the couture and the ultra-feminine, with layers of ruffles and tulle, daring, smoky colors and ballgown skirts.
  • Dessert Bars & Cocktails
With a nod to the elegance of the 1920’s and a modern trend that has couples hosting their own weddings, people want choices – and they want to have fun. Cocktails can be easily adapted for your theme – warm, spiked apple cider, pumpkin or cinnamon inspired cocktails will delight your guests, control your budget and add some delicious, seasonal flair. A dessert bar is one of our absolute favorite ideas, and one that absolutely has no rules. Choose your favorites and run with it. From cakes to cupcakes and truffles, the choice is yours.

New York State is breathtaking at this time of year, and here at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, we love being right in the middle of it all. We love seeing how the colors of the season influence our brides and how couples combine the wedding traditions of the past with the modern ideas of where they are right now. Fall wedding trends are here to stay, and we can’t wait to see what’s happening next!
